This is the serial number of the bicycle or powersport vehicle and not your lock. Kryptonite locks do not have a serial number.
Your local bicycle or powersports dealer should be able to create an appraisal for you on their company letterhead. Have them sign it, send us the original with your paperwork, and keep a copy for your records.
Kryptonite does not require you to have homeowners' or any other insurance to register for the anti-theft protection program.
Currently, Kryptonite offers the anti-theft protection program for bicycles in the U.S., Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom. For powersport vehicles, the program is available in the U.S. and Canada.
Please contact customer service immediately so we can learn more about the theft of your bicycle or powersport vehicle.
As part of our constant improvement process, our engineering team inspects every lock that is sent to Kryptonite. We value this information a great deal. In addition, a piece of the lock serves as proof of lock failure.
No. Cables are for deterrent security only. For moderate to ultimate security, Kryptonite recommends using a u-lock, chain, or disc lock.

How to Choose My Lock?

Kryptonite makes recommendations based on where you are locking and the length of time that your bike or vehicle will be unattended. Lock Maintenance
We recommend you clean & lubricate your lock(s) using these guidelines: If you are in an area that tends to have harsh climate changes with snow, rain or you're near the ocean, we recommend a monthly clean & lube. Otherwise, perform this maintenance on a bi-monthly basis. The areas of the lock you should focus on maintaining include the cylinder, deadbolts, u-shackle ends, or the lock-pin attached to cables.
Step #1- Clean the above listed parts with a rag first (Note: If extra grime or corrosion is present, clean first with a degreaser spray or a WD40 type product. WD40 is not a lube, it is for cleaning.)
Step #2- The lube type we recommend for all our locks is a "wax base" lubricant with added TEFLON. WAX helps as a carrier for the lubricant to coat and cling to the internal metal parts while TEFLON is a good slippery additive that gets in between the moving parts and reduces friction. Add a few drops on the above listed parts, then insert the keys. Turn the keys 5-10 times. This will keep the lock working great. Examples of this lubricant can be found in many local Bicycle or PowerSports shops, and Hardware stores.
It's possible. When used frequently, your keys can wear out or become damaged. Check your keys for wear and tear at the same time you lube your lock each month. You can easily order additional keys from Kryptonite.

My key doesn't seem to work in my new lock as it is jamming. Are the keys or cylinder defective?
The key should insert all the way and turn 180 degrees smoothly. If it only turns 90 degrees or you can't insert the key all the way, take a look at the cylinder to make sure that all the discs are aligned. You can align the discs with a small flathead screwdriver or anything thin enough to fit in. Once you push the disc back into place, your key should insert fully and turn 180 degrees. If that fails, contact customer service.
Try to use a pair of tweezers or needle nose pliers to get the piece out. If that does not work and your bike is locked up, your only option is to contact a locksmith and have them remove the lock. You can send the lock, keys and the locksmith bill to us at the address below. We will send you a new lock and refund the locksmith bill for you. If the lock is not attached to anything, send it in with the keys.
